When we are asked to give a suggestion on how to explore the Coromandel in just one day we recommend the following: drive the SH 25 to Hahei, see Cathedral Cove (the most beautiful beach I know), then cross over to the West coast on the "309 road" through the jungle, stopping at the Kauri walk and at Waiau Falls, and drive on the SH 25 down the West coast to Thames - ideally at Christmas time, when the red Pohutukawa trees are blossoming.
Sometimes we take the opportunity and do the tour with our guests. This time we took Gaby along, a photographer and horse book publisher from Germany. The photos, however, are made by myself with my low budget compact camera, but you will still be able to appreciate the beauty of these spots.
