Turning the page: Dickson Holiday Park

There was a point in time when I decided to take the opportunity and venture out of a dead end. As a GP, the stress was starting to affect my health. After breaking my back in that car accident, I started to realise that something new was knocking on my, our, door.

It was also when our children all had left home (more or less) and we could downsize our space, and we learned that the local Dickson Holiday Park was for sale, and we were convinced that it could financially support us. We felt attracted to work at our very own pace, meet lots of interesting people, breathe the clean air and listen to birdsong, surrounded by lush bush.

After difficult negiotiations, we turned the page. We sold our house and signed the purchase agreement. A long holiday in Europe followed, and then we took over. Admittedly, the work is not less, by no means, but, at our own pace, and as a project we work on together. It is now 4.5 months ago that we took the reigns, and we do not regret it, although many things were challenging. Things breaking down or needing upgrade, lots of calls to tradies, good and bad experiences. And always sombody who wants to help. Often we feel stretched, but we lern patience.

The place is a little paradise. As you can see on the pictures. In our 90 sqm flat, above the reception, with our large roofed balcony, we feel like king and queen. The permanent residents, about 16 - 20 of them, carried us through the winter, financially. And they form a little community, a bit like a tiny house village. We have two lovely young managers, who are not perfect, just like we aren't either. But the aim is to support each other.

Now, as it is getting warmer, and the borders are open again, we get lots of tourists from overseas. Lots of Germans, and many French as well! They come often with their motor campers, or stay in our backpackers.
