Easter Holidays 2013

Coming from Germany, I am astonished by the duration of this summer. The maximum temperature still exceeds 20 degrees on most days as we are slipping into April (the "October" of the Northern Hemisphere). Only the mornings and evenings can be really chilly now and in the mornings I sometimes drive through clouds of fog. This summer has been a really dry one and we have been indulging in sunshine.
Life is friendly and peaceful here while I sometimes feel like in a storm again driven by my new medical training to close up to NZ GPs and I find myself back into the workload I had in Germany.
Our daughter Clara has left home about a month ago to study in Auckland and is enjoying her new freedom and friendships - at the moment we have her here for the Easter Holidays.
This morning our little ones were searching Easter eggs, early enough not to have them melted by the midday sun.
At church we were again confronted with the Easter message of the risen Christ. A story not easy to believe particularly for us people of Western culture. But we see our life and the life of others profoundly changed and newly framed by the power of that story (and of the promise connected to it), and so we keep going in discovering what God has in place for us today and tomorrow.

Whangamata Beach Hop 2013

A real Kiwi event is the annual Beach Hop in Whangamata, where Kiwis celebrate their love for oldtimers, with emphasis on the glorious 1950ies.
It is a relaxed show-off with mostly American cars of the Rock'n Roll era, and some Dragsters and Harley-style motorcycles. Today there was also a subshow of old caravans.
We had a look and enjoyed the chrome and industrial baroque.
